Cameron and Lizzie Kellett

My name is Cameron Kellett and on the 10th of August 2011, I ended my twenty year addiction to nicotine. I also made a choice to start living a healthier and more fulfilling life. In the past I have made numerous attempts to quit smoking. I have bought and read books, used nicotine replacement therapy, joined quit lines, taken prescribed medication, and even deliberately overdosed to make myself sick.

I eventually broke the addiction using the tried and true method of complete abstinence, otherwise referred to as cold turkey. Now having said that, this is not a site about quitting smoking using the cold turkey method. Where I have failed, a great many have succeeded!

In fact, it would be misleading to suggest my success in stopping smoking can be specifically attributed to the cold turkey method. My success came about from the experience I gained through my failures to quit and the hours spent researching my addiction.

One of the key turning points in my own private war against nicotine addiction, was the realization that my motivation to stop smoking was flawed. For years I had been driven to quit by countless adverts and government health warnings about the dangers of smoking tobacco. Whilst the likelihood of getting cancer, heart disease and emphysema, may be sufficient enough for smokers to give pause and consider quitting, it isn’t really enough to motivate smokers into suffering the intense and immediate withdrawals that come with stopping smoking. My experience as an almost two packet a day, twenty year smoker taught me this.

My motivation eventually came from gaining a greater understanding of my addiction and by developing a desire to heal from it. I did not want to continue living in state of constant hunger, stress, anxiety, frustration and mental illness. I wanted to find enjoyment and pleasure in the everyday things that non smokers enjoy. I also wanted to do things in life I simply couldn’t do as a smoker. The foundation of my quit was based on a choice to live a better life, and not simply to avoid an unpleasant death!

It is this very concept that ACHOICE2LIVE™ has been built on and of course, it’s founding value.

I have established ACHOICE2LIVE™ to assist nicotine users in quitting and build an active community of ex smokers, capable of enjoying and promoting a higher quality of life.
